SACRED MOUNT KAILASH TOUR 2011 with Total Lunar Eclipse

US$ TBA
1st - 26th June, 2011

Far into the West of Tibet, in a high, isolated area, rises a sublime snow-clad pyramid-shaped mountain, Mount Kailash. For thousands of years pilgrims have gravitated to this sacred site of immense natural power. The four major rivers of Asia have their source here, in what is referred to as the navel of the world. Here the temporal and the eternal unite and the divine takes physical form.

Tour Detail

For Buddhists Kailash is a gigantic natural mandala and for Hindus it is the legendary Mount Meru, cosmic mountain at the centre of the universe and the Throne of Shiva. For both it is the epicenter of Tantric forces. Nearby is the sacred Lake Manasarovar born from the Mind of God. Pilgrims believe that drinking this water releases them from one hundred incarnations. To circumnabulate Mount Kailash releases them from the sins of this lifetime and to circumnabulate 108 times is said to bring enlightenment. This Holy Mountain and lake are the crowning jewels of a magical land of pure light and intense colour.

This is considered the most sacred pilgrimage site in Asia and, to many, the most sacred in the world.

We travel here and do a ‘kora’ (circumnambulation) of the holy mountain at the time of the Saga Dawa Festival – this celebrates the birth, death and enlightenment of Buddha. Pilgrims flock here in their hundreds to participate in raising universal prayers attached to a huge flagpole. We will visit the sacred Lake Manasarovar where the Tree of Life for the Hindus emerged. This trip includes seeing Lhasa, Gyantse and Shigatse – major towns of Tibet. We travel right through the mighty Himalayan Range on the return to Nepal.
