Nepal
Nepal is a land of great diversity and interest. It is home to the worlds highest mountains, and where the great barren highlands give way to the forests and jungles further south, eventually leading down into the plains and grasslands.
The people are also diverse having been influenced by previous generations of migration from Mongolia through Tibet and also across from India. Being a mountain kingdom it has a brave history of warriors and has never been colonised by any superpower. The Ghurkha soldiers have the well earned reputation of being the bravest soldiers in the world, but the people are loyal and loving as well as fierce and brave. Most Nepalese are Hindus but Buddhism also plays a part, and the two religions compliment each other and co-exist peacefully, with the edges of the two blurring and blending.
Situated between Tibet and India, Nepal has a population of almost 29 million people. The country is a kingdom only recently moving towards democracy, with the difficulties that go along with this process.
Whilst Nepal is considered to be a very poor country, it has a wealth of talent. The people are incredibly creative and their ability for making high quality produce and handicrafts is well known. The famous pashmina wool comes from Nepal, as does some exquisite jewellery. Their hospitality is renowned and they go out of their way to be kind and helpful whilst having a great sense of fun. They have a long and interesting history with much to offer the tourist.
With such diverse terrain goes an abundance of scenery and nature, from plants and trees to birds and wildlife. A visit to a game reserve will present a chance of seeing the elusive tiger, the Asian armour-plated rhino, and maybe even the ganganetic dolphin.
This is a great country to visit and experience.
